This property is located at 197 King Street East in Old Toronto. The development site was originally occupied by a 4-storey building, but in 2020, the Toronto City Council adopted the application to alter the heritage property. The conservation plan details the redevelopment of the site into a mixed-use, multi-unit residential complex. Studio JCI’s design strategy for this heritage restoration aims to keep the existing wooden windows (not original, only on the front existing façade) and the original brick façade – both essential features that highlight the building’s personality. Apart from the existing 4 floors, the design added another 4 stories, bringing the total number of units to 21. 197 King has retail on the ground floor to promote urban streetscape and pedestrian interaction.
