John St. N Mixed-Use Development
This tower project aims to create a gateway towards the heart of Hamilton’s downtown core. This exciting design strategy remains pedestrian-oriented and contextual while aligning with the city’s secondary plan to intensify housing needs by adding up to 380 residential units.
The overall massing is sculpted to transition from the adjacent low-rise context to the tower, reinforcing the corner and the gateway. The podium is delicately proportioned to be sensitive to the existing 2-3 storey buildings while maximizing the activation of the public realm. The tower is a conscientiously composed collection of urban-scaled volumes: the major vertical element reinforces the corner, the mid-rise section visually transitions from the solid masonry base to the glazed tower above, and the smaller tower’s fine grain detailing differentiates and connects these volumes together.
