Weston Village Mixed-Use
This 45-storey tower is situated in the vibrant Weston Village neighborhood adjacent to the Weston GO/UP Express Station at the edge of the Humber Ravine. The design seeks to mediate the two opposing yet equally dominant and rich site conditions, drawing inspiration from the mythological Roman deity, Janus, the god of duality who has been depicted for centuries as having two faces. The north elevation responds to the hustle and bustle of Weston Rd with inset balconies articulated with vertical fins while the southern elevation's horizontal, continuous balconies open to the expanse of Humber ravine and mimic the recumbent winding of the river.
The mixed-use development with modern commercial retail spaces at ground level, seeks to enhance the thriving pedestrian and commercial environment along Weston Road. The tower comprises 562 residential units and presents itself in three volumes: grounded by a six storey brick podium to match the prevailing material qualities of the neighborhood, then transitioning to an eleven storey, lower tower, and finally topped off by a twenty eight storey, upper tower. The built form responds to the anticipated growth of Weston Village and the greater need for housing in proximity to major transportation hubs and arterial roads.
